Are Entertainers Narcissists?

Whenever I post pictures or videos of myself on social media, the question comes up "are you seeking attention?" -- sometimes from myself and other times from close family members. I am sure it comes from those not so close as well.

I have come to make peace with this issue. I am an entertainer. I love to be in the spotlight. There is much gratification that comes from putting on a performance.

Is this narcissistic? I think all of us have some level of narcissism within us.

Here is another perspective to consider. You know when you really feel like doing something to express your God given uniqueness, but feel embarrassed or shy?

There's a certain block that gets in the way, prohibiting you from letting loose. Well, suddenly you see another person flowing freely and you see how happy they are when are allowing that creative vibe to flow through them to the world around them. Entertainment and performances move people!

Doesn't that inspire you to be yourself? Who cares if people are going to ostracize you?

Okay, let's talk about freedom of speech and action. There is always going to be that aspect of "is my freedom of expression affecting someone else in a negative way?"

As many of you know, I no longer call myself a Christian, however as a former student of the Bible, I remember reading about "causing others to sin". I think before we do anything, it serves the collective when we ask ourselves "is what I am about to do beneficial to the whole?".

Even that is objective because you will have those who adhere to very strict principals, for e.g., dancing in a sensual fashion -- but fully clothed. Someone from a strictly modest home might think that this is very "sexual" and causing others to lust. Others may feel like this is an amazing way to express your creativity.

Then again, what might be sacred to YOU might not be so sacred to another person. Take for instance, going to the beach. If you are a woman and you are wearing a bathing suit that fully covers your body to go swimming and you are in India; this might be considered inappropriate.

Yet, in most places in Brazil a full coverage bathing suit might seem too much. When it comes down to it, I think it is important to think of the collective.

Eighty years ago most women wore dresses. It would be sacrilege to wear pants. Look at us now! Well, that accounts for most of the world.

So back to narcissism. What is narcissism? To quote Psychology today (https://www.psychologytoday.com/za/basics/narcissism):
Narcissists have a prominent place in the popular imagination, and the label "narcissist" is widely deployed to refer to people who appear too full of themselves. There's also a growing sense that narcissism is on the rise around the world, especially among young people, but psychological research does not support that notion.
You can continue reading the article by clicking on the referenced link above. To further quote Psychology Today:
How do I spot a narcissist? Narcissism is characterized by a grandiose sense of self-importance, a lack of empathy for others, a need for excessive admiration, and the belief that one is unique and deserving of special treatment. If you encounter someone who consistently exhibits these behaviors, you may be dealing with a narcissistic individual.
There you have it! Ask yourself if where you are on this spectrum. Sometimes in life, a lot of us have experienced these feelings ... even for a moment. However, they do not characterized the majority of the collective.

Porn stars bring a whole lot of excitement to a whole bunch of people, but what about to innocent young children who get sucked into their explicit and enticing performances?

You would have to be very naive (and living in a different reality) in this day and age, as an adult industry performer to think that your entertainment only reaches adults.

We live in a dualistic world. If everything was innocent, kind, peaceful, love-themed ... etc. we would be in a different dimension.

To answer the question plainly; it depends on the person! I think the focus should be "how well do I know myself?".

Thanks for reading! Here is is an another instagram post of me doing what I love:
